When Freehold Township and Neptune meet again in 2027, the Patriots will face one of the teams that provided an early lesson during their inaugural season.
On April 15, 2026, Neptune came to Freehold Township and handed the young Patriots a 27–0 loss.
At the time, Neptune was unbeaten and rolling.
Freehold Township was still learning how to compete at the varsity level.
One year later, the Patriots get another shot.

The first meeting belonged to the Scarlet Fliers.
Neptune entered Freehold Township and controlled the matchup, keeping the Patriots off the scoreboard and leaving with a 27-point victory.
For Freehold Township, it was only the third game in program history.
The Patriots had earned their first-ever victory over Manalapan just one week earlier, but Neptune showed them just how quickly the level of competition could change.
It was a difficult afternoon.
It was also part of the learning process.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
Freehold Township didn't allow the Neptune loss to define its season.
The very next day, the Patriots traveled to Ranney and responded with their most explosive offensive performance of the year — a 33–6 victory.
Five days later, they beat Marlboro 20–6.
That response became an important part of the Patriots' inaugural season.
They got knocked down.
Then they answered.
NEPTUNE
Neptune proved throughout 2026 that its performance against Freehold Township wasn't an accident.
The Scarlet Fliers finished 5–4 overall and 5–4 in the Central Division, scoring 227 points during the season.
They also showed plenty of offensive firepower, scoring 40 or more points in victories over Freehold Boro, Manalapan and Ranney.
That makes Neptune an important measuring stick for Freehold Township entering Year Two.
A DIFFERENT PATRIOTS TEAM
The team Neptune sees in 2027 won't be the same inexperienced program it faced in April 2026.
Freehold Township now has a season of varsity football behind it.
The Patriots have experienced victories.
They've experienced adversity.
They've played some of the division's best teams.
And they've had an entire offseason to get better.
The question in 2027 isn't what happened the first time.
It's how much has changed since then.
KEYS TO THE REMATCH
Start Fast — Neptune took control of the first meeting. Freehold Township can't allow the Scarlet Fliers to establish that same momentum in 2027.
Get on the Scoreboard — The Patriots were shut out in 2026. An early touchdown could immediately change the tone of the rematch.
Limit Explosive Plays — Neptune showed throughout 2026 that it could score points in bunches. Freehold Township's defense will need to keep everything in front of it.
Win in the Open Field — Sound flag pulling will be critical against an athletic Neptune offense.
