After establishing the program in its inaugural 2026 season, the Freehold Township Patriots enter 2027 with something they didn't have a year ago: experience.
The Patriots finished their first campaign 3–5, competing in a tough Shore Conference Central Division. The year included a 33–6 win over Ranney and a 20–6 comeback victory over Marlboro, giving a young roster valuable experience to build on.
A YOUNG CORE RETURNS
One of the biggest reasons for optimism is the number of young players who gained significant varsity experience in 2026.
Skyler Rausch emerged at quarterback during the season and produced one of the team's standout performances against Ranney, completing 11 of 13 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns while adding 46 rushing yards.
The Patriots' inaugural roster also featured a substantial group of freshmen and sophomores, including Shiloh Harris, Antonella Moreano, Rachael Marsella, Isabelle Hanna, Gabby Ramiz, Joelle Ganon, Lily Naik, Maria Bulawa, Fiona Cellina, Delila Martinez and Julianna Viesta. That gives Freehold Township the potential to bring considerably more varsity experience into Year Two.
THE NEXT STEP
The challenge in 2027 will be turning that experience into consistency.
Freehold Township scored 96 points while allowing 129 in the available 2026 standings. The Patriots demonstrated that they could win decisively, but they were also shut out by Shore and Colts Neck late in the season.
That makes the next progression clear: develop a more explosive and consistent offense while continuing to build a fast, aggressive defense.
HISTORY AWAITS IN 2027
The timing couldn't be better.
The 2027 season is scheduled to become the first year girls flag football is an NJSIAA-sanctioned sport in New Jersey, bringing with it the first official state tournament.
For Freehold Township, that means Year Two isn't simply another season.
It's an opportunity for the Patriots to establish themselves as a program just as the sport enters a new era in New Jersey.
